Lorelei Jager

Major: Communication

Camera Operator Intern, Cape Cod Baseball League

How did you learn about this internship opportunity?

Through a friend who had received the internship the 2 years prior.

How has your internship helped build your skills and clarify your career goals? How did being a Liberal Arts student at Purdue apply to your internship?

My internship has made me so much more excited about my future career and made me want to be successful in order to continue on this path. I created so many important connections through this internship as well, so it was very important to have this experience. Being a Liberal Arts student was important in this role as well because without going to Purdue and being in Com, I never would have found my path.

What is a piece of advice you would give someone in your major looking for an internship?

Try to find the internship that can lead to the best connections possible. I truly believe it is not what you know, it is who you know, and having a good internship allows you to have both aspects of that phrase.

What key responsibilities or tasks have you taken on during your internship?

I had to deal with all camera equipment that went along with the broadcast. I also took on the role of being the camera operator for all sideline reporting and pre/post-game show.

In what ways has the College of Liberal Arts at Purdue University supported your internship journey? How has your participation in our job-ready program specifically aided your professional development?

Without the job-ready program, I would not have been able to accept this internship. It was a lot on me, financially, this summer as we did not receive housing or any pay at all for our work, and I had to relocate to a very expensive spot in the US, so being able to get this scholarship gave me a leg up in my career and allowed me to succeed in my work this summer. Being a CLA student has been so much more rewarding that I could have possibly imagined. The experiences and opportunities I have had since being here have allowed me to be excited about my future and have introduced me to such passionate people. Being around those people, in turn, has made me more passionate for my career.

Could you highlight a standout aspect of your experience in this program that you find particularly noteworthy?

A standout experience from this past summer was having the opportunity to go to Citi Field, where the Mets play, for a private game only for interns and scouts. It was such an important day and gave me important connections. I was able to get the feel of working in a Major League setting, which only made me more excited about my future.
