1.) How did you learn about your internship opportunity?

Family friend

2.) How has your internship helped build your skills and clarify your career goals? How did being a Liberal Arts student at Purdue apply to your internship

My internship has helped build my skills and clarify my career goals by forcing me to reach outside of my comfort zone. I did not think that I would be able to attain an internship at a law firm, but I was lucky enough to get faced with this opportunity, so I am making the most of it and taking advantage of all of the skills that my firm is teaching me. Being a Liberal Arts student at Purdue University applied to my internship because I found out about the scholarship through my guidance counselor and the internship is provided through the college of liberal arts.

3.) What is a piece of advice you would give someone in your major looking for an internship?

A piece of advice that I would give someone in my major who is looking for an internship would be to ask around with people and don’t be afraid to contact people that you haven’t talked to in a while. I was able to attain this internship through a family friend I hadn’t talked to in a very long time and I was nervous about it, but he was very willing to take me on and teach me some skills that will be helpful for me when applying to law school. In the long run you would rather be happy with an internship on your resume instead of regretting not contacting someone that you haven't talked to in a while, because they will most likely be happy to help.

4.) What key responsibilities or tasks have you taken on during your internship?

Some key responsibilities that I have taken on during my internship is maintaining the organization of the office. A lot of my firm’s records are on paper, and it is a small firm, so the lawyers are constantly busy and don’t have a lot of time to keep 100% track of everything. I was in charge of keeping the files organized and showing everyone where the files were and helped make the filing system easier for the future. I also learned how to identify important documents and what they represent and mean in court or in a contract setting.

5.) In what ways has the College of Liberal Arts at Purdue University supported your internship journey? How has your participation in our job-ready program specifically aided your professional development? Please elaborate on the significance of being a CLA student.

The College of Liberal Arts at Purdue University has supported my internship journey by giving me this scholarship because I was going to have a very hard time completing this internship without the aid of the scholarship, because of the large costs that were associated with going out of state.

6.) Could you highlight a standout aspect of your experience in this program that you find particularly noteworthy?

A standout aspect of your experience in this program that I found particularly noteworthy was how much I was able to mature just from this experience alone. I had never gone somewhere for an extended period of time by myself without my family or friends, so it taught me a lot about responsibility and made me take accountability to have to take care of myself. One thing in the actual program itself that I found particularly noteworthy was how much more my internship enhanced my organization skills. I had to go through and reorganize all the case files since the company was established and dealing with legal documents is very particular, so I had to make sure everything was in order and make sure to always triple check my work before getting rid of something or also keeping something that didn’t need to be kept.
