Majors: Political Science

Political Intern, Indiana Republican Party

1.) How did you learn about this internship opportunity?

I learned about this internship opportunity through my research and encouragement from a few of my professors.

2.) How has your internship helped build your skills and clarify your career goals?

My internship has helped me clarify my career goals by reaffirming my passion for politics and continuing to direct me to a field where I can pursue that interest mathematically and logically. I still hope to graduate and become a pollster, helping politicians and leaders make decisions based on carefully compiled facts.

3.) How do you apply your Liberal Arts skills to your internship?

In my internship, although I am not a communications major, I do a good deal of writing and proofreading. My writing experiences in the classroom at Purdue have prepared me well to write in a variety of styles and circumstances. With this skill, I have successfully disseminated information through newsletters, transcripts, and social media that are viewed by wide audiences.

4.) What is a piece of advice you would give someone looking for an internship?

In Political Science, securing a job or internship position is often about the connections you make. Due to the social nature of politics, it is essential to find and cement connections with those who can further your career and offer advice. I would encourage other students to start by making relationships with their professors and local government officials and take their advice on how to get connected with an internship. Then, once you have secured a position, continue to build your network and perform any job given to you with a willing and determined attitude.
