Ellen Fideli

Major: Film and Video Production

Video Director, Falmouth Commodores

1.) How did you learn about this internship opportunity?

I was invited back to the Commodores for their 2023 season to be the Video Director. For summer 2022, I was a videographer. I grew up going to the Cape so I have been to numerous 'Dores games and always knew about their internship program.

2.) How has your internship helped build your skills and clarify your career goals?

This internship has helped me in more ways than I could have ever imagined. By starting out as a videographer, I learned how cameras worked, and how to anticipate where the ball would go. As for the Video Director is where my skills improved. I not only dictated which cameras were live and specific subjects to get, I also acted as the producer for our team. I organized a detailed run of shows daily so our team could all follow along how our show would look from the second we went life to the second we signed off. I have become a much stronger and more versatile leader from this internship. It has solidified my goals of wanting to work in sports.

3.) How do you apply your Liberal Arts skills to your internship?

I applied my communication skills daily in this internship. Not only by writing up a Run Of Show but also organizing and leading daily pre-production meetings. I would start the meetings off with our performance of the prior game and areas where we were excluded.

4.) What is a piece of advice you would give someone looking for an internship?

My advice is to do it even if it is unpaid. Though it was a non-paid internship, I was able to qualify for the Job-Ready Award and was compensated for my time. I was able to do the internship of my dreams without worrying about payment. I was able to grow in an environment where people accepted me for my creative beliefs, but also me as a person.
