Congressional Intern, US House of Representatives

1.) How did you learn about this internship opportunity?

I learned about this internship opportunity through personal research. Congressman Pence is my hometown Congressman, and I desired to complete federal legislative internship.

2.) How has your internship helped build your skills and clarify your career goals?

This internship has greatly benefited my skill development as well as structuring my career goals. As a Congressional Intern, I was able to better understand both the legislative process at the federal level and the inner workings of congressional offices. Through this internship, I was able to solidify my interest in public service and foreign policy.

3.) How do you apply your Liberal Arts skills to your internship?

The Liberal Arts skills provided through my degree have been invaluable to my success during the internship. The skills of critical thinking, attention to detail, and policy research provided through my education allowed me to be prepared for success from day one.

4.) What is a piece of advice you would give someone looking for an internship?

There are two pieces of advice from my office that stuck with me throughout the internship. The first piece of advice is that relationships matter! Investing in those around you pays dividends far beyond what you can imagine, but more importantly you will have a strong group of people around you. The second piece of advice is embrace the less glamorous parts of an internship with a smile! It is no secret that internships aren’t without their challenges, but approaching less exciting tasks with enthusiasm will set you apart from the rest.
