DeKryger is a proud graduate of two universities. Calvin University is a Liberal Arts university in Grand Rapids, MI and owned by the Christian Reformed Church. While his BS major was in biology, he was required to take innumerable liberal arts courses such as theology, philosophy, history, German language, English, and speech. He understands the liberal arts. His MS degree in animal sciences was directly connected to his career. He is a lover of animals - primarily pigs. DeKryger’s company produces 700,000 weaned pigs per year. As the company leader, he really needs to love them! As the CEO of a mid-sized agribusiness company, he has used his LA education in so many ways. He has grown Belstra, 20-fold in the past 35 years. His leadership team is required to create logical thought, and express themselves with poise, clarity and insight. His liberal arts education prepared him for this. He has been honored to be a member of Purdue's Board of Trustees for more than 10 years. The thought process is very complicated and requires much forward thinking. He is so grateful for his training in these areas.
