Haley Sawyer is passionate about helping people become their best selves and realize their true potential. During her undergraduate education, she realized that communication is a crucial component of this process.
Currently, Haley is a graduate student in the Brian Lamb School of Communication. Her research aims to advance gender and health justice in corporate workspaces, and to connect issues like globalization, gender justice, and food and water insecurity to organizational wellbeing globally.
Connecting these issues highlights successes and pain points companies can learn from to promote wellbeing among individuals and pursue equity-minded policy and planning.
In addition to her primary research interests, Haley possesses expertise in public speaking and professional communication, which she uses to help students around campus become confident and competent communicators.
Haley has previously taught COM 114 and COM 325, where she had the opportunity to educate students about communication skills in presentational and interviewing situations.
She also enjoys working one-on-one with students in the Purdue Presentation Center (PPC), where she has mentored for the past two years. Whether students are preparing for a class presentation, dissertation defense, or simply looking for tips on how to be less nervous when speaking, Haley loves to connect with them and help them grow.
At Purdue, Haley is actively involved with the PPC and is currently working on expanding their services to support students’ professional communication needs across campus. She is also involved with the Communication Graduate Student Association, where she works to advocate for student needs.
When she isn’t working, you can find Haley on a run, doing yoga, or reading a good book.
