Dr. Buzon’s work focuses on burial archaeology in the Nile Valley (ancient Nubia and Egypt). Using mortuary and skeletal data she explores the consequences of contact between populations. She maintains an active field site in Tombos, Sudan where she has investigated the effects of Nubian-Egyptian contact on identity and health during the New Kingdom period. Future fieldwork plans include the excavation of burials at Tombos that date to the period of Nubian state formation during the Napatan period. Professor Buzon directs the analysis of the Tombos skeletal remains. She has published articles in various international archaeological and anthropological journals including Journal of Archaeological Science, American Journal of Physical Anthropology, Current Anthropology, International Journal of Osteoarchaeology, Historical Archaeology and Kiva. She is the first author of ‘Bioarchaeological Methods’ in the Handbook of Archaeological Methods. She has presented papers at national and international conferences. Dr. Buzon’s research has been funded by the National Science Foundation, American Philosophical Society, Institute for Bioarchaeology, and the Killam Trust.
