Ben Grubbs is a current master's student in the Department of Anthropology. Currently, his investigations have been toward ceramic analysis from the Fort Ouiatenon site. Examinations include glaze techniques, clay body analysis, and identification of possible origins. His focus on Fort Ouiatenon stems from a dual interest in Midwestern archaeology and Francophone culture. During the 18th century, Fort Ouiatenon served as a local distribution center for the French Fur Trade, while also creating intercultural relationships with the French and the Indigenous cultures in the area (Wea, Kickapoo, and Mascouten). His studies intend to examine how ceramics were used at this site, and potentially how this medium reflects these cross-cultural relations.
