An Evening of Song

- FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC -

Made possible via the CREATE grant program from Purdue’s College of Liberal Arts, Dr. Allen McCullough, Composer and Assistant Professor of Music, along with the Department of Music, cordially invite you to attend “An Evening of Song” – a unique opportunity to hear internationally-renowned musicians perform new musicfor soprano, baritone, and piano.

Caitlin Lynch (soprano; https://www.caitlinlynchsoprano.com/) has graced the stages of premier venues including the Metropolitan Opera, Houston Grand Opera, and the English National Opera. Described as a “rich, shimmering soprano [who] shines with a resplendent inner light” (Opera News), she will perform Dr. McCullough’s epic song cycle The Blue Symphony(for high voice & piano) using poetry by Pulitzer Prize-winner John Gould Fletcher.

Jonathan Lasch (baritone; https://www.jonathanlasch.com/) has appeared as soloist with major American orchestras in prominent performance venues such as Carnegie Hall, has performed leading roles with numerous opera companies, and has presented many recitals both nationally and internationally. Equipped with “a big, powerful sound with a light-handed facility” (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel), he will perform the composer’s Edgar Allan Poe Song Cycle (for medium voice & piano) – a substantial work originally premiered by Dr. Lasch in Moorhead, Minnesota.

Kathleen Kelly (piano; http://www.kathleenkellymusic.com/) is an internationally in-demand collaborative pianist, opera coach and conductor, appearing in such notable venues as Vienna’s Musikverein, Weill Recital Hall, and the Kennedy Center, while working with artists such as Joyce DiDonato, Michael Kelly, and Susan Graham. In addition to partnering with each individual singer in the two listed song cycles, she will join forces with both vocalists in Dr. McCullough’s Wedding Prayer(a duet for high voice, medium voice, & piano), commissioned by Wayne St. University, using text by critically-acclaimed poet – and uncle of the soprano – Thomas Lynch.
