Closing Concert with (((April33)))

May 3, 2026 @ 7 PM
LAMP Recital Hall (Elliott Room 15)

Closing the Steinway Spirio Residency at Purdue, this special concert on May 3, 2026 features (((April33))), an electroacoustic ensemble uniting pianist Lucia Ahn and cellist Maria Ahn of the world-renowned Ahn Trio with music technologist, composer, and bassist Tae Hong Park. Joining the ensemble as a special guest is Vijay Rajkumar, whose recent collaboration with the group at the Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company’s Year of the Horse Gala in New York City will extend into this performance through live visual media.

Formed in New York City in 2018, (((April33))) explores how sound shapes memory, silence, place, and performance. Their work blends instrumental virtuosity with computing, environmental sound, and what the ensemble describes as “recycled noise pollution,” transforming traces of urban and lived sonic experience into immersive musical performance.

Named in dialogue with John Cage’s 4'33", (((April33))) moves between serenity and intensity, acoustic presence and technological mediation, and human gesture and environmental sound.

Recent work by the ensemble includes the newly released single “WSP x 11,” with an EP expected later in 2026. The program will also feature the premiere of Spaces | Places | Traces, a new work integrating the Spirio into the performance, alongside the triple concerto In-E for piano, cello, electric bass, and phones.

For Purdue’s Spirio Residency, the closing concert offers a fitting close to a program centered on the evolving relationship among piano, technology, artistic expression, and experimental listening.

This performance is presented as part of the Steinway Spirio Residency at Purdue and the closing celebrations of the Spirio Hackathon and Creative Challenge and the inaugural Hammer Down! Piano Competition.
