Dr. Wendy Kline Presents 2024 Susan La Flesche Picotte Distinguished Lecture

Wendy Kline, Professor of HistoryDr. Wendy Kline, Professor in the Department of History and the Dema G. Seelye Chair in the History of Medicine, presented the 2024 Dr. Susan La Flesche Picotte Distinguished Lecture at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in October. Dr. Kline (left) presented a lecture titled, “The Purpose of the Pelvic Exam: A Historical Analysis,” which draws on material in her recent book, Exposed: The Hidden History of the Pelvic Exam (Polity, 2024).

Susan LaFlescheThe annual Lectureship, named for Dr. Susan La Flesche Picotte, is focused on social determinants of health, population disparities, and best practices for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in acute care and medical education. In 1889, Dr. La Flesche Picotte (right) was the first Native American woman in the United States to receive a medical degree.
