EVA - Emily Haas

Dr. Emily Haas has worked for over six years with the Pittsburgh Mining Research Laboratory.

She is the principal investigator of the project, “An Analysis of Health and Safety Practices through Multilevel Interventions.” Within this project, Dr. Haas conducts research studies on organizational climate and risk management in areas specific to leadership and communication to discover ways to strengthen safety culture and worker performance in the mining industry.

Her research also involves developing, implementing, and evaluating organizational interventions with a present emphasis on improving worker and management engagement in response to new technologies, including how workers and managers can better measure and mitigate health hazards in the workplace. 

Dr. Haas has authored over 60 publications, 48 of which she is the primary author. She has provided over 75 technical presentations, including workshops and keynotes at international mining conferences.

Dr. Haas received her PhD in Health Communication from the Brian Lamb School of Communication at Purdue University in 2012 and her BA/MA in Communication from the University of Dayton in 2007 and 2008, respectively.

In September 2019, Emily was honored as an 2019 Emerging Voice Award recipient on behalf of the College of Liberal Arts at Purdue University. Since 2007 the College of Liberal Arts Alumni Board and the Purdue Alumni Association have been honoring young alumni from the College of Liberal Arts who are successfully achieving their career goals, serving their communities, and representing the College as graduates who think broadly and lead boldly.
