CLA's Stance on non-Purdue Hosted Sites and Links

Linking to a non-Purdue-owned domain is risky which is why there are web policies in place to protect the university. But we acknowledge that our website may contain links to external, third-party websites or services outside the purdue.edu domain.

Our stance on linking to outside websites is characterized by caution and a clear disclaimer of responsibility:

• Purdue explicitly states that it does not endorse, take responsibility for, or exercise control over the views or content found on these independent sites.
• The university does not vouch for the accuracy or accessibility of the information on external sites.

In essence, while we understand there may be a need for external links, particularly in an academic setting where access to information from various sources is essential, it emphasizes that users should be aware of the inherent risks involved in navigating to external sites.

• We do not have control over the design of these sites.
• They likely don't follow Purdue brand guidelines.
• There are potential security risks.
• The domain could potentially expire allowing an adult site or other nefarious actor to purchase it.

Linking to established and trusted institutions or organizations is permissible, but you may not link to a domain where the owner is a single individual.
