Quick Guide on Course Placement (English Language or Written Communication)

Table showing English class placement for international students. Students with TOEFL 100 or below, IELTS 7.5 or below, or Duolingo 130 or below are placed in SCLA 11000 and then SCLA 11100. Students with TOEFL 101 or higher, IELTS 8.0 or higher, or Duolingo 135 or higher are placed in ENGL 108 or SCLA 101. Students without TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo scores are placed in SCLA 11000, with possible exemptions based on PLaCE staff review.

“No TOEFL, IELTS, or DET Score” placement is in SCLA 11000. Exemptions will be decided in consultation with PLaCE testing staff and involves review of test scores, including the ACE-In test administered online during the summer and other compelling evidence of proficiency.
