Adriana Vanegas Torres is a student in Food Science from Estelí, Nicaragua

How did you get interested in your field of study?

My early exposure to agriculture through my father, an agronomist, inspired my interest in food production. I am particularly passionate about food science and am currently pursuing my Ph.D. in Food Safety at Purdue University.

What did you find most beneficial in SCLA 620?

In SCLA 620, I learned essential skills for delivering presentations and speaking in public, not just in academic settings but also in social environments.

What specific language, communication, and presentation skills did you improve on in SCLA 620?

One of my performance goals was to expand my vocabulary, and I have been working to introduce more sophisticated adjectives and words and incorporate them into my daily use.

Moreover, SCLA 620 was extremely useful for learning how to organize a presentation effectively. I learned when I needed to do a pause, or where to put a stress in a sentence, and how to transition smoothly from one topic to another. In conclusion, the course helped us to understand the music of the language.
