Where were you born? Where did you grow up?
I was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, but I also spent many of my formative years in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, making both places a significant part of my upbringing. Igbo kwenu!
What brought you to Purdue?
I originally studied Aeronautical Engineering Technology...
What was your major, and why did you choose it?
…But then I took one itty bitty Intro to Theatre class and EVERYTHING CHANGED from there.
What is a favorite project and/or memory from Purdue and Purdue Theatre?
Long days and nights on campus — from class to work to rehearsal or show — were filled with playfulness, discovery, trial & error, and deep belly laughs. Many of my favorite memories from Purdue Theatre revolve around the mentors and colleagues who shaped me along the way: especially Nico Caldwell, a best friend and a bright light, gone too soon.
Where are you working right now? What do you do?
At the moment, I’m gearing up for a short stint on the Life of Pi National Tour, after having previously performed in the show on Broadway. I’m excited to be back in the boat and reunite with Richard Parker, my favorite tiger (shhhhh, don’t tell Tony!).
How did Purdue prepare you for the challenges and opportunities you have faced in your career?
Purdue taught me versatility. Gaining experience both in front of and behind the scenes deepened my appreciation and respect for the collaborative nature of this art form and the unique talents each person contributes to create the magic that ends up onstage.
What is your favorite recent project?
Speaking of magic, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was just that. Even though I know how the sausage is made, some illusions still leave me in awe and give me a child-like sense of wonder.
Anything else you want to share about yourself that makes you unique and that you want to celebrate?
Most of my work onstage has been highly physical, ranging from dance to puppetry to illusions. I love yoga, the gym, and exploring different ways to move my body. Movement strengthens me physically, clears my mind, and fuels my creativity.
