Distinguished Graduate Student Awards
Each Spring, the College of Liberal Arts solicits nominations for the Distinguished Graduate Student Awards. These awards are meant to celebrate the achievements of outstanding graduate students in the following categories:
Distinguished Dissertation Award (DDA)
Nominees for an award must have received their PhD degree or completed the dissertation and all other degree requirements within the past fiscal year (July 1-June 30). Each department and/or school is allowed to nominate two candidates.
The evaluation criteria include: the significance of the contribution to the discipline and associated literature, quality of research approach, and innovative components of the dissertation.
The College will award two of the nominees an engraved commemorative plaque and a monetary award.
Distinguished Master's Non-Thesis Project (DMNT) & Distinguished Master's Creative Work (DMCW) Awards
Nominees for this award must have received the master’s degree or completed the Master’s Project and all other degree requirements within the previous fiscal year (July 1-June 30). Each department and/or school is allowed to nominate one candidate in each of the two categories.
Because the intent of the competition is to recognize scholarship and quality creative work by students who are pursuing their first graduate research degree, individuals who received a PhD (or comparable research degree) in any discipline prior to the master’s degree are not eligible. However, recipients of a first professional degree awarded prior to the writing of the thesis may be nominated.
Evaluation criteria include: the significance of the contribution to the discipline and associated literature, the quality of approach to the project/work, and the innovative components of the Project or Creative Work.
The College will award one nominee (per category) an engraved commemorative plaque and a monetary award.
