About Me:
My name is Christopher Wai and I’m from Hong Kong. I am currently studying Cybersecurity at the Purdue Polytechnic Institute. My interests are basketball, music, and gaming.
Why did you choose to study at Purdue?
I chose to study at Purdue because I was interested in the Cybersecurity field and Purdue is ranked #4 for its Cybersecurity program in the US. However, now my career goals have changed, and I am now going into Computer Engineering at Purdue, as I can still explore the defense security field and open more opportunities for myself.
Goals and Plans:
I hope to get a job in the US in Embedded Systems after I graduate, work for a couple years then transition back to Hong Kong. This means that I hope to gain some work experience in the US, but for the long term, I would like to go back in Hong Kong.
Experience with PLaCE classes or workshops:
SCLA 110 helped me by teaching me about local culture and traditions such as the Thanksgiving holiday and helped me to make friends that have similar cultural backgrounds as me.
Purdue Experiences and Memories:
One of the best experiences I've had so far in Purdue was sledding during the winter at Slayter Hill, as I’ve never experienced snow living in Hong Kong.
Advice to new Purdue students:
I would advise new international students to try to open up and talk to locals or people from different cultural backgrounds. This expands your view of the world and can help you reflect on yourself in terms of who you want to become. Try talking to people that sit next to you during class, join them for a meal and attend certain events regularly to bond with new people.
