Risa Cromer Receives Adele Clarke Book Award
Associate Professor of Anthropology Risa Cromer has been awarded the 2026 Adele Clarke Book Award. Initiated by the ReproNetwork community in 2014, the award is presented every other fall to recognize an outstanding book within Social and Human Sciences - Science and Technology Studies (SHS-STS) on reproductive processes, experiences, technologies, politics, and/or practices.
Cromer’s groundbreaking work in Conceiving Christian America. Embryo Adoption and Reproductive Politics published by NYU Press was judged to be the most potentially influential contribution to scholarship on reproduction. It is the first book on embryo adoption tracing how this powerful social movement draws on white saviorist tropes in their aims to reconceive personhood, with drastic consequences for reproductive rights and justice.
