Carolina Alvim Ferreira

Carolina has 15 years of experience teaching Portuguese and Spanish as additional languages, having worked in Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, and the United States. She is currently a Lecturer of Spanish and Portuguese at Purdue University, where she also serves as the Portuguese Program Coordinator. From 2017 to 2022, Carolina served as Editorial Assistant for the Luso-Brazilian Review and was the Program Director of the Portuguese Intensive Summer Institute at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.

Carolina’s research examines silence, gender, and narrative in contemporary Brazilian literature, with a particular interest in how voices and identities are constructed and negotiated through discourse. She also has extensive experience with translation and transcription in Portuguese, English, and Spanish (in official, technical, and academic contexts), as well as with the official Portuguese proficiency exam, CELPE-Bras.
