Koula Sophianou

Koula Sophianou began her work for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus in 1998 first serving at the Protocol and Consular Affairs and later the Political Affairs Division of the Ministry. In 2000, she was assigned to the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Athens, Greece. In 2003, Koula was reassigned to Cyprus’s Permanent Representation of the European Union where she was responsible for relations between Cyprus and the European Parliament.  From 2007-2009 she worked at the Cyprus Question and Turkey Division until in 2009 she assumed the post of Consul-General of the Republic of Cyprus in New York.

Koula recently received the Pancyparian Association Inc. Women’s Issue Network’s Woman of the Year Award.

While at Purdue, Koula was an active member of many organizations. She served as President of the International Student Association and the Hellenic Student Association.
