Applying to the Sociology Graduate Program
***We regret to announce Purdue Sociology will not accept applications for our graduate program for Fall 2021. This has been a difficult decision for us, but we feel we have a responsibility to focus our resources on supporting our current students in this uncertain time. We look forward to welcoming a new cohort in Fall 2022.***
The Department of Sociology seeks graduate students with diverse intellectual perspectives and experiences, and accepts students without regard to age, race, gender, ethnicity, creed, national origin, disabilities, or sexual preference.
Our program is a PhD degree granting program in which students earn an MS degree along the way. Applications who have already completed an MA or MS degree in sociology may apply to enter directly into the PhD program.
Please note we do not admit applicants who are only seeking an MS degree.
The graduate program committee will begin reviewing application materials next year for Fall 2022. Applications submitted by this date will receive full consideration.
The department’s fields of sociological specialization are:
- Family
- Health, Aging, and the Life Course
- Law and Society
- Social Inequality: Class, Gender, Race/Ethnicity, and Sexuality
- Social Movements and Political Sociology
- Sociology of Religion
- Work and Organizations
