CMPL 650: Shakespeare in World Literature
Why does Shakespeare transcend culture, language, and time? This course explores Shakespeare’s plays as global texts by tracing their adaptations and reinterpretations in world literature, film, and performance. Students will examine why themes of identity, power, love, and justice resonate in various cultural contexts across the globe. This course emphasizes cross-cultural exchange and invites students to view Shakespeare not only as an English writer but also as a world author whose works continue to inspire global dialogue.
