XSeries

XSeries is a creative incubation series that provides space for students to choreograph, perform, direct, and stage manage. In the XSeries, students have the opportunity to perform in our two student-directed productions, Xperimental Concert and XWorks Concert, take classes from dance professionals in the community through the Dance Xpansion workshop series, and learn how to give, recieve and implement feedback about dance works through Dance Xchanges. 

XSeries is open and welcome to all Purdue students from diverse dance and movement backgrounds.

XPERIMENTAL CONCERT

Xperimental

The Xperimental Dance Concert is one of two annual student-directed, produced, and choreographed concerts presented during the Fall semester. This show is designed for exploring new and unusual ideas for dances. These dance works can be very experimental or a first-time choreographic attempt. XSeries encourages BOLD experiements! The concert is open to any dance style and level of experience and emphasizes new and creative approaches to the creative process and performance. 

Unlike most traditional seating arrangements, the seating for audience memebrs is set in the round (a circle), which provides the audience with the opportunity to experience and witness dance in a new perspective. 

XWORKS

XWorks

The XWorks Dance Concert is the second student-directed, produced, and choreographed dance concert of the XSeries.  Taking place in the Spring semester, the XWorks concert is more formal in presentation and performed in a proscenium setting in Yue-Kong Pao Hall. Much like Xperimental, dancers of all styles, experiences, and backgrounds are encouraged to particpate. In addition to choreographing and performing, students have the opportunity to volunteer for backstage and production roles such as sound board operator, light board operator, and stage manager.

Call out for Spring 2026's XWork's Concert is on November 16, 2025 at 4:00p in Pao Hall Dance Studio 1179.

DANCE XCHANGE

Dance Xchange

Dance Xchange is the process in which our student choreographers and performers gather to present the progession of their Xperimental or XWorks dance pieces.  Student choreographers also receive feedback in an informal, supportive, environment which provides them with information to consider when continuing to build their dance work.

Dance Xpansion

Dance Xpansion is a day of FREE, open-level dance classes in assorted styles open to all current Purdue students! Dance Xpansion is a wonderful way to get acquainted with the Dance Program, the students, and the dance faculty. 

Join us for our next Dance Xpansion on November 16th, 2025. Below is the list of classes that will be available:

12:00p - 12:55p — Deborah Kull, West Coast Swing

1:00p - 1:55p — Vivian Kim, “I’m Ready” by Chungha (Kpop & Waacking)

2:00p - 2:55p — Petre Illiev, Traditional Bulgarian Dance

3:00p - 3:45p — Renee Murray and XSeries Director Jack Kuchmay, Sound Design Class

4:00p - 5:00p — XWorks Callout - open to all Purdue students
