Patti and Rusty Rueff Galleries

Cancer, Culture, and Community Exhibition
October 20  -  31, 2014
East Gallery
Reception: Thursday, October 30, 5 - 7 pm

A partnership between the Purdue University Oncological Sciences Center and the College of Liberal Arts, Cancer Culture and Community explores the human response to cancer as expressed through the arts and literature. This exhibition, organized by Kathy Evans, features student work done in response to the book "Toms River: A Story of Science and Salvation," by Dan Fagin. "Toms River" won the Pulitzer Prize for Science Writing in 2014. The story is one of industrial pollution of air and water linked to childhood cancers and the struggle for justice; it is a microcosm of a world dependent on chemicals without quite comprehending the effects on our health. The exhibition features work by students in drawing, printmaking, and textiles. Work by the following artists is on display: Maggie Bender, Bri Bowman, Dawn Braddock, Chris Bulava, Colin Buntin, Austin Clemens, Emily Dye, Muyu Guo, Yancun Li, Isabel Mazanowski, Maggie Nelson, Ashley Neubaum, Catlin Sullivan, Sarah Trotter, Hope Adams, Yi Bian, Bill Edmiston, Kristen Hockney, Utkarsh Jaiswal, Anna McCulfor, Kylin Schoeff, Anna Schultz, Preston Voglund, Brianna Webber, Devan Williams, Yuan You, Yiming Zhang, Gabriele Appenzeller, Alyssa Arnold, Abby Holmquist, Inez Christman, Rebecca Huckstep, E'Lisa Kelley, Savannah Mick, Samantha Piscotta, Bailey Ritchie, Wenlu Shao, Johanna Terpstra, Jennifer, Gray, Alyssa Reynolds, Yufei Weng, Ellen Shepherd, Lauren Mesaros, Jake Leffler, Jesse Poynter, Xingyao Wu, Sarah F. PSNAEA Exhibition 2014
October 20  -  31, 2014
West Gallery
Reception: Thursday, October 30, 5 - 7 pm

The Purdue Student National Art Education Association (PSNAEA) is an organization of students who have an interest in the arts and are majoring in art education. The purpose of this exhibition is to display some of the works of art these students have created during the time they have been learning about the visual arts. As future art educators, PSNAEA believes that learning about art involves quality teaching and understanding the language of the visual arts.

Each fall, members of PSNAEA exhibit their work in the Patti and Rusty Rueff Galleries. This year's exhibition features the work of the following Purdue art education students: Abby Holmquist, Andie Manges, Andrea Chambers, Bailey Landis, Brittany Justice, Elizabeth Clark, Gabriele Appenzeller, Grace Coffey, Inez Christman, James Copeland, Joseph Bockover, Lauren Nagy, Paige Allen, Sara Furbush, Stephanie Modlin, Taylor Vowels, and Yoyo Zhao (Yue Zhao).

About the Galleries

The Patti and Rusty Rueff Galleries, along with the Purdue Galleries, provide a vital component to the cultural life at Purdue University and its surrounding community.  The Rueff Galleries have the unique perspective of being a teaching and research space for students and faculty of the Rueff School of Visual and Performing Arts at Purdue. Housed in Pao Hall on campus, the Rueff Galleries offer exhibits and special events that speak directly to its mission of serving the students and faculty, while also expressing perspectives that are national and international in scope. The Rueff Galleries are named after Patti and Rusty Rueff, who were the benefactors instrumental in providing funding necessary to establish the galleries for the Rueff School of Visual and Performing Arts.

The Patti and Rusty Rueff Galleries regularly show over a dozen exhibitions each semester. Our exhibition schedule for the current term is available under Current Exhibition Schedule. Past exhibition schedules can be viewed under Past Exhibitions.
