What was the most exciting thing about your role? 

Working with the detectives and contributing my thoughts on an active case was very exciting. I was able to see a case develop and watch all of the behind the scenes action. 

What surprised you most about your internship? 

What surprised me most was how busy the detectives were. The Sheriff’s Office is responsible for all the county areas that have not been annexed by the city. Most of the area is farm land and there aren’t a lot of people but more crime happens in those areas than one would think. 

How did you apply your Liberal Arts-skills to your internship position?

I applied my critical thinking skills as well as interpersonal skills to help with investigations. 

How has your internship prepared you for your career? 

This internship has given me a view of what law enforcement is actually like. TV shows and movies paint a picture of nonstop action and car chases whereas in reality, law enforcement consists of lots of paperwork, phone calls, and building positive relationships with community members.
