What was the most exciting thing about your role?

The most exciting aspect of my role was being able to work with a host of different community members and partners and learn about the initiatives that different organizations are working on. I was able to learn so much about the Indianapolis community and effort to promote equitably living.

Describe the most meaningful experience you had as an intern.

The most meaningful experiences of my internship were the opportunities to have meaningful and reflective conversations with different members of the team, as well as the executive directors of the organization. These conversations allowed for me to reflect on my own intentions, style of work and purpose that was guiding my work. I learned so much about myself and why I am dedicated to community engagement through this opportunity.

How did you apply your Liberal Arts-skills to your internship position?

I used my writing and speaking skills that I learned from liberal arts on a daily basis. Staying in communication with community partners and others within my non-profit organization was a significant part of the work as was engaging in meaningful discussion around different issues and solutions regarding equity and community.

How has your internship prepared you for your career?

My internship prepared me immensely for a career in public service. By working with community organizations, local government officials, and youth in the community, I was able to understand how to take the needs of the community and apply them to meaningful and intentional solutions.
