Jong-un Choi, lecturer of art and design in the Rueff School of Design, Art, and Performance, is presenting a solo exhibition, The Poetry of Built Space, at The Art Federation’s Robert B. & Patricia Peyton Truitt Gallery through October 30, 2026.

The exhibition explores ordinary moments and everyday spaces through color, light, and the quiet atmosphere of dusk. Choi’s paintings capture the subtle transition from day to night, when familiar surroundings gradually transform under changing light. Windows become points of reflection and connection, offering glimpses into the stories unfolding beyond the glass.

Through this body of work, Choi invites viewers to pause and reconsider the beauty of everyday environments and the quiet narratives embedded within them.
In her artist statement, Choi reflects on the relationship between the sky, light, and the stories suggested by the windows she observes:

“As the sun gently sets into evening, everything begins to lose its color. Yet each visible object is softly enveloped in the quiet hues of dusk. My gaze gradually settles on a window, where I glimpse the stories of our lives unfolding beyond the glass.

There is a conversation between the sky and the light, a quiet dialogue that continues as day gives way to night. I simply stand there, listening to them.”

The exhibition is open to the public through October 30, 2026 in the Robert B. & Patricia Peyton Truitt Gallery located in The Arts Federation, 638 North Street, Lafayette, IN. The Arts Federation is open Monday through Friday, 9 am – 5 pm.
