Bobby Chastain Selected for Alex Trebek Legacy Fellowship
Bobby Chastain has been selected for an Alex Trebek Legacy Fellowship by the Television Academy Foundation in Hollywood. Just one of 18 professors chosen for the honor nationwide, he will attend the annual Media Educators Conference from Oct. 21-23 to learn about the latest in television with prominent leaders in entertainment.
In addition to being a Purdue graduate, Bobby is the chair and an assistant professor of film and video production in the Patti & Rusty Rueff School of Design, Art, and Performance. Chastain’s academic focus is on all aspects of film and video production and technology, and his research interests include experiential learning development for visual storytelling and the intersection of technology and the arts.
In 1995, Chastain began producing, directing and editing on film sets, in post-production suites and in multicamera control rooms. Since teaching his first editing course in 2004, he has helped to develop, implement, grow and maintain the production portion of the film and video studies program at Purdue. He now works to develop courses toward Purdue's new university-wide AI competency graduation requirement, the first of its kind in the country, including a course on AI and the screen.
Chastain’s participation in the conference reflects his decades-long involvement in both the professional television industry and the higher education sphere.
“The Department of Film and Video is dedicated to giving our students both professional practice and creative thinking together, putting them at the intersection of art and technology,” he says. “The Media Educators Conference is an opportunity to meet and work with others who are helping to define what professional practice will mean for the next generation of creative storytellers, and I am thankful for the opportunity to bring new knowledge back home to our students.”
The Television Academy Foundation collaborates with industry professionals, creators and top executives to help educators provide the next generation of television leaders with a state-of-the-art education.
