Research Day at the College of Liberal Arts Research Academy

Event title: College of Liberal Arts Research Academy Research Day. Photos of 24 presenters and respondents are displayed underneath.

The College of Liberal Arts Research Academy (CLARA) cordially invites the Purdue community to its Research Day on October 29, 3-7pm, in the John Purdue Room of Marriott Hall.

The event encourages scholars to think about new avenues of their research in creative ways and facilitates non-traditional, cross-disciplinary engagement.

During the event, CLA faculty present five-minute research overviews followed by three-minute responses. The respondents for each program are an inside expert and an outside scholar. While the inside expert knows the respective research, outside scholars represent different colleges and disciplines and are involved based on their scholarship and potential interest in a topic. All respondents received key publications related to the respective research program and were invited to answer the following two questions: What is unique/exciting about this research program? What are the directions for future research?

This format adds an interactive component to the research presentations. It provides context as the researcher can explain why the respective approach is exciting while the outside scholars will share broader implications and possible connections to other fields. The event should inspire attendees to think about new ways in which their research program can be connected to other scholars and fields across Purdue colleges to tackle important problems and to further theoretically meaningful research questions.

The event also includes remarks from college leadership and a buffet dinner with entertainment.
