Zachary R. Goldsmith is a political theorist interested in political ideologies, including liberalism, conservatism, and socialism, as well as the ideas inspiring political extremism and violence. He is the author of Fanaticism: A Political Philosophical History (University of Pennsylvania Press), and his writing has appeared in QuilletteLaw & LibertyThe Washington Post's Made by History section, and NBC News, among other venues. A former Fulbright Fellow, he is also a previous recipient of a Graduate Fellowship from the Rumsfeld Foundation.

A dedicated teacher of transformative texts, he has recently taught seminars on themes such as “What is Happiness?”; “Ancient Texts, Modern Problems: Happiness, Justice, Truth”; “Utopia as Dystopia,” as well as “Transformative Texts for Business.” Professor Goldsmith’s office is in BRNG 2229.
