Woomin Park (pronounced as separate syllables ‘Woo’ and ‘Min’) is a Ph.D. student in philosophy at Purdue University, beginning in Fall 2024. His research is centered at the intersection of metaphysics and philosophy of science, with a particular emphasis on metaphysical explanation, scientific explanation, and the nature of laws. Woomin's academic journey began with a B.A. in philosophy from Yonsei University in Seoul, followed by an M.A. in philosophy from Seoul National University. His M.A. thesis explored metaphysical grounding and causation.
Before delving into philosophy, Woomin trained as a physics teacher at Korea National University of Education, where he earned a Bachelor of Education and obtained teaching certificates in physics and general science for secondary schools. This background has cultivated a lasting interest in philosophical questions related to science education, including how science should be taught and what should be taught.
Woomin's passion for these topics was further developed during his tenure as a teaching associate at Pohang University of Science and Technology, where he assisted in a range of courses, including philosophy of science, history of science, philosophy of physics, and history of physics.
