Office and Contact

Park, Woomin (pronounced as [pag-u-min] in Korean) is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Philosophy. His research sits at the intersection of metaphysics, epistemology, and philosophy of science. His earlier work explored the possibility of unifying metaphysical grounding and causation, focusing on the challenges posed by grounding necessitarianism. Recently, he has been thinking a lot about epistemological questions concerning science and science education, especially the aims of science education—whether it ought to promote justified belief, knowledge, understanding, or something else—and the nature of scientific knowledge, explanation, and understanding themselves. Even so, he is still drawn to the metaphysical implications of physics, and the relation of physics to the other special sciences.

Prior to joining Purdue, Woomin was a teaching associate of humanities at Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH). He holds an M.A. in Philosophy from Seoul National University and a B.A. in Philosophy from Yonsei University. Before getting into philosophy, he trained to be a physics teacher at Korea National University of Education. When he is not thinking about big ideas, he is into movies by directors like Robert Altman and Paul Thomas Anderson, both classical and contemporary music, and the almost magical ways data science has transformed baseball. He also enjoys exploring modern architecture and industrial design.
