Sebastian Stein

Sebastian Stein is a Visiting Assistant Professor. He was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Philosophy at Heidelberg University and has taught philosophy at colleges and universities in Oxford, Stuttgart, Tübingen and Heidelberg. He earned his D.Phil. in Political Theory at the University of Oxford, where he wrote a dissertation on Hegel’s Philosophy of Right under the supervision of Michael Inwood. Sebastian’s academic interests lie in German Idealism, metaphysics, practical philosophy, and metaphilosophy, with a particular focus on the philosophical systems of Kant, Fichte, and Hegel.

His current research examines the nature and justification of philosophical knowledge, the concept of free will, and the relationship between metaphysics and philosophical method. He is the author of numerous articles and book chapters, editor and co-editor of several scholarly volumes on Hegel and German Idealism, and serves as an editor of the Cambridge Elements series on Hegel as well as of the scholarly journal The Hegel Bulletin. His work has been presented at universities and conferences across Europe, North America, Asia, and Australia.
