Ozgun Basmaz

Özgün Basmaz is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the School of Interdisciplinary Studies at Purdue University. She is a scholar of film historiography, film theory, and world cinema whose research explores the intersections of cinema and international relations. Her research examines how the global circulation of Hollywood cinema throughout the twentieth century shaped transnational debates about modernity, national identity, race, and gender.

Prior to her current appointment, she taught undergraduate courses in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and American Studies, and worked at Purdue Archives and Special Collections, where she contributed to the digital Purdue Women’s History Timeline, We Were Always Here.

She received her Ph.D. in American Studies from Purdue University with a concentration in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.
