Nathan Halder

Nathan Halder is a PhD student in history at Purdue University.  His research examines the socio-cultural history of immigration in the Federal Republic of Germany during the 1980s and 1990s, with a focus on Russian-German communities.  He is particularly interested in questions of cultural identity, integration, and the memory of war in Wende-era German society.  Nathan earned his BA in History and German from Western Michigan University in 2023.  From 2022 to 2023, he studied at the Freie Universität Berlin; during this time, he conducted research on the origins of Berlin graffiti culture, work that was recognized with the WMU Presidential Scholar Award.  Outside of his academic work, he enjoys country music, foreign travel, and strong coffee.
