Natalie at Purdue

When Natalie began her time at Purdue, she already knew she wanted to pursue Professional Writing. She had always enjoyed writing and wanted to find a career that would allow her to put that passion to use.

During her freshman year, Natalie was introduced to Computer Graphics Technology. She chose to concentrate in data visualization and web development, creating a balance between her interests in technology and writing. By her senior year, she knew she wanted to bring the two fields together.

As a Boilermaker, Natalie took advantage of opportunities to gain hands-on experience. She worked in marketing and writing with RecWell and completed an internship at Food Finders through a course taught by Professor Jennifer Bay. There, she gained experience in data analysis and website content writing.

Natalie After Graduation

Before joining Cisco, Natalie interned at Splunk, an opportunity she found through LinkedIn. Following Cisco's acquisition of Splunk, she continued building on the technical and writing skills she developed through her education and professional experience.

In her current role, Natalie focuses on two areas: writing troubleshooting documentation and creating user experience (UX) content for the web. In her technical writing role, she develops user documentation for cybersecurity applications. As a UX writer, she helps make digital experiences more intuitive by creating content that guides users through applications and software.

By combining her background in writing and technology, Natalie has found a career that draws on both areas of her education at Purdue.

Advice to Incoming Students

"There are so many great opportunities at Purdue to get out and spend time with people. Take advantage of the events and all the cool things that Purdue offers. Don't take it for granted!"
