Naomi began her journey at Purdue as a creative writing major, drawn to the engaging introductory courses, welcoming community, and supportive people within the English Department. As she explored her interests, she discovered that writing skills could open doors to opportunities far beyond the classroom.

While balancing two jobs as an undergraduate, Naomi developed her technical writing skills and discovered the professional writing major, which led her to new research opportunities. She joined the CROW team, where she gained experience in a variety of writing genres, including grant writing, technical writing, and scientific communication.

Her work with CROW helped her take her skills beyond the classroom, leading to opportunities to presenting at a national conference and the 2025 Purdue Undergraduate Research Conference. 

Naomi After Graduation

Today, Naomi works as a paralegal with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office in Indianapolis, where she puts her writing, research, and analytical skills to work in the legal field.

Her minor in Law and Society, combined with her experience in professional writing, provided a strong foundation for her career. Her work involves coordinating information across offices, gathering and analyzing case data, and preparing legal documents that require accuracy, clarity, and attention to detail.

Naomi’s journey demonstrates how an English degree can lead to unexpected opportunities. By combining her interests in writing and law, she found a career where the skills she developed at Purdue continue to make a meaningful impact.

Naomi's Advice to Incomoing Students

As her mother tells her, "Take a leap of faith."

And some advice from her, "Don't be shy to make friends with your peers. The community is small-you will be with those people for four years. Make some good friends that last eve after graduation."
