Megha Anwer

Megha Anwer is a theorist of literature and visual culture. Her research areas include contemporary postcolonial literature, global cinema, Victorian literature and visual culture. Her co-authored book, Screening Precarity: Hindi Cinema and Neoliberal Crisis in Twenty-first Century India, published by University of Michigan Press came out in September 2025. She also has a co-edited volume, Bollywood’s New Woman: Liberalization, Liberation, and Contested Bodies (Rutgers UP, 2021). Her peer-reviewed publications have appeared in multiple journals and anthologies, including Victorian Studies, The Journal of Postcolonial Writing, ARIEL, Quarterly Review of Film and Video, Bioscope: South Asian Screen Studies, Journal of Graphic Novels and Comics, Global South, among others.

In her courses, Dr. Anwer invites students to engage with literary and visual cultural productions—literature, film, photography, digital media, popular culture. She treats the classroom as an investigative pathway into the world, where students can better understand its complexity and their individual and collective place within it. She encourages students to explore the interconnected of ideas, trace how ideas travel and morph, to revisit the past, re-see the present, and imagine new configuration of the future. She has received multiple teaching awards and grants, including the Exceptional Early Career Teaching Award (EECTA), and the Teaching Academy award. She also serves as the Assistant Vice Provost for Research and Scholar Development at the John Martinson Honors College.
