Marc Tarling joins Purdue as Assistant Professor of Practice in Industrial Design.

Marc has over 25 years of industry experience in automotive design, working at Ford in Europe (UK and Germany), and at General Motors in the US (Detroit).  He also has extensive experience working with GM’s China partner in Shanghai.  He seeks to bring his broad industry experience to his teaching at Purdue.

He is a multidisciplinary designer and has held varied leadership roles within automotive design. These roles include production design, advanced design, CMF, brand design, design strategy, vehicle architecture, and digital design / interaction.  He has extensive experience in bringing concepts to final production across multiple vehicle brands.  He has built expertise in creating brand design visions and executing these across large complex organizations. 

Marc has a passion for the future of mobility, strategic design, and the importance of “the designer as integrator”.  

His specializations include:

  1.  Mobility Design - vehicle design and wider mobility solutions.
  2.  Design Strategy - creating compelling design strategies that drive focused innovation.
  3.  Integrated Design - design of the broader user ecosystem including the synergies between hardware and software.

Marc holds an MA in Vehicle Design from the Royal College of Art, London, and a BA in Architecture from the University of Newcastle, UK.
