Jess Berchtold is a PhD candidate at Purdue University. She is a 2025-26 recipient of the full-year American Dissertation Fellowship from the American Association of University Women (AAUW). Her dissertation examines how conspiracy theory videos use a warped rhetorical style to persuade humans and algorithms that conspiracy thinking is worth circulating.

 

At Purdue, Jess has taught First Year Writing (ENGL 106), Advanced Writing: Writing with AI (ENGL 304), Digital Design and Production (ENGL 309), Multimedia Writing (ENGL 419), and Business Writing (ENGL 420). She also served as the Assistant Director of Professional Development for the Writing Program during the 2023-24 academic year.
