Get to Know Professor Gabrielle Byrd
My primary research interests are intergroup communication, (dis)ability, health, and identity. I am particularly interested in exploring ways in which societal norms, values, and stereotypes relate to communication, relational, and identity processes and how all those processes influence interpersonal, intergroup, and health outcomes. I enjoy teaching classes related to my research interests, particularly classes that examine the way our various identities impact our communication, relationships, and health outcomes.
I look forward to working with graduate students who are interested in interpersonal communication, intergroup communication, health communication, and stigma communication. I am particularly excited to work with students who are interested in the intersections of these areas. As an advisor, I will work with students to realize and actualize their goals, whatever those may be. I am a hands-on teacher and look forward to carrying that into advising, primarily through collaboration.
