About

 

Fan Zhang is a critically acclaimed sound designer and composer for theatre, dance, film, commercial radio, and installation. Her designs are described as "smart" and "has and otherworldly quality" by New York Times and Vulture. Fan is the recipient of the New York Innovative Theatre Awards (Cannibal Galaxy) and Connecticut Critics CIrcle Award (Seven Guitars).


Her recent Off-Broadway design and original music credits include: At the Wedding ( Lincoln Center Theatre); The Far Country (Atlantic Theater); This Land was Made (Vineyard Theatre); Snow in Midsummer (Classic Stage); Paris (Atlantic Theatre); the Golden Age (59E59); On That Day In Amsterdam (59E59); A Kid Like Rishi (Origin Theatre); Our Dear Dead Drug Lord (Second Stage & Women’s Project); Pumpgirl (Irish Rep); Suicide Forest (Ma-Yi&A.R.T), Molly Sweeney (Keen Company & Theatre Row); Round Table (59E59); Behind the Sheet (Ensemble Studio Theatre); Beautiful Day Without You (West End Theatre); Calling: Dance With a Faith (Ping Chong & La Mama); Interstate (Theatre Row); The Trail of the Catonsville Nine (Transport Group); Scissoring (INTAR); Three Girls Never Learnt the Way Home (Cherry Lane Theatre); Tania In the Gateway Van (The Flea).


She has designed at most of the nation's leading regional theaters including productions at: Shakespeare Theatre Company, Berkeley Rep, Arena Stage, Steppenwolf Theatre Company, Milwaukee Rep, Capital Rep, Artists Repertory Theatre, Long Wharf, Pittsburgh City Theatre, Portland Center Stage, Studio Theatre D.C., Two River Theater, Westport Country Playhouse, Williamstown Theatre Festival, Yale Rep, Huntington Theatre and Old Globe.

 

She holds a M.F.A. from Yale School of drama. She is a member of United Scenic Artists Local USA 829, IATSE and TSDCA (Theatrical Sound Designers and Composers Association).
