Evie Levin is a PhD student in history, studying the intersections between popular cultural institutions and the state in Cold War America, under Dr. Kathryn Cramer Brownell. Specifically, she is interested in the use of pop culture as a tool of the American state to manufacture public opinion regarding US imperial efforts. Born and raised in the San Fernando Valley, California, she completed her BA in history at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, where she researched Hollywood’s role in the liberalization of the early Civil Rights Movement. Outside of academia, Evie is a quasi-professional watercolorist and (shockingly) an avid movie-watcher.
