Dr. Hyesun Choung (Ph.D., University of Wisconsin–Madison) is an Assistant Professor in the Brian Lamb School of Communication at Purdue University. Her research focuses on the lay psychology of AI, examining how people make sense of, evaluate, and respond to AI systems in communicative contexts. She is also interested in the social and ethical implications of AI, especially questions of trust, fairness, and the social legitimacy of algorithmic decision-making. Dr. Choung’s ongoing projects explore human–AI collaboration, perceptions of generative AI, and how people attribute qualities such as trust, morality, and fairness to AI systems. Before joining Purdue, Dr. Choung worked as a postdoctoral research associate and later as a faculty member at Michigan State University.
