Fan Zhang has received nominations for two of the most prestigious honors in American theater design: the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Sound Design in a Play and the Henry Hewes Design Award for Sound Design. Both recognitions celebrate Zhang’s work on Good Bones, which premiered last year at The Public Theater in New York City.

Good Bones, written by Pulitzer Prize–winning playwright James Ijames and directed by Tony Award–winning Saheem Ali, explores how revitalization efforts collide with community heritage. Developers clash with longtime residents over what it means to preserve a neighborhood’s essence. At its heart, the play is a thoughtful examination of gentrification’s promises—and its painful costs.

The Drama Desk Awards honor excellence across Broadway, Off-Broadway, and Off-Off-Broadway. The Henry Hewes Design Awards stand alone as the only national awards dedicated exclusively to theatrical design, recognizing contributions as vital as those of writers, actors, and directors.
