Billy Boyd Smith III

Born and raised in Concord, N.C, Billy Boyd Smith III (better known as Boyd Smith) began drawing and painting at the age of nine. After graduating with a Bachelors in Fine Arts from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, Boyd Smith worked as Assistant Director and Curator at the Adam Ramsey Miller Gallery in his hometown. After two years of learning the art of curation and making connections with local and regional art communities, Smith started the Boydz Afficher Gallery in the same area. Creating an edgy and eclectic space for painters, sculptures, performers, and art-lovers alike, Boyd Smith also cultivated his skill in 3D oil and acrylic paintings and art gallery curation. Smith maintained his connection to the local community by providing art classes and presentations for local schools and children’s groups. Relocated to the Lafayette area, Smith is pursuing a M.F.A. at Purdue University in Electronic Time - Based Media (ETB) and painting. He serves as the art curator for the Purdue Black Culture Center and a faculty member at the Art Museum of Greater Lafayette.
