At Purdue, the Science and Technology Studies Certificate gave me the space to connect my passion for healthcare with questions about ethics, policy, and technology. I traveled to Kenya for my practicum, to study healthcare in rural and low-income communities. I quickly learned how deeply cultural values, resource availability, and policy shape every decision in patient care. My background as an EMT gave me a clinical lens, while STS courses helped me understand the bigger picture of community, healing, and medicine. I am planning on attending medical school with hopes to become an Emergency Medicine physician.
STS taught me to see medicine not just as a science of healing, but as a powerful intersection of society, ethics, and science.
