Capstone Project

What is the Capstone Project?

For the final 3 units, students enroll in a hands-on practicum, internship, or research experience on an STS topic in their home department that will result in a research product that will be submitted to the year-end Undergraduate Research Symposium. This can be fulfilled through a methods class in the student's major, or in a credit-awarding internship experience (on- or off-campus). Projects will be developed within their home major but in consultation with the STS Certificate Advisory Committee.

Build on Your Foundation and Choose a Topic You Enjoy

The Capstone project should be challenging and help your professional growth but can be fun and rewarding as well. Propose a project that builds on a prior class/studio project or internship experience; this would allow you to take a deeper dive into a topic you've begun to explore already. Or it could provide an opportunity to explore an entirely new question, topic, or creative endeavor. Either way, the project should be an interesting and rewarding experience that helps you develop your skills and career readiness.
