Language Placement Testing

Testing Schedule

American Sign Language Placement Testing
  • Testing is by appointment:  Contact Raymond Olson rcolson@purdue.edu
  • Test will be conducted in ASL and includes demonstration of basic signs and conversation
  • Results will determine placement in ASL102 or 201 (placement in ASL 202 is not an option)
  • An advance Form 231 is not required; your advisor will be notified of placement results
Chinese Placement Testing
  • Date: Monday March 9, 2015
  • Time: 2 Hour test begins at 7:00 pm
  • Location: Stanley Coulter Hall 102
  • Required:  Form 231, signed by your advisor
French, German, Japanese, Latin, Russian, and Spanish Placement Testing
  • Languages Tested: French, German, Japanese, Latin, Russian, Spanish, and Spanish for Heritage Speakers
    • Dates: Spring 2015:  January: Monday 1/12 and Tuesday 1/13
                                     April: Wednesday 4/8, Thursday 4/9 and Friday 4/10
  • Time: 6:00 pm (Students taking the Japanese or Russian test MUST arrive promptly due to short test period)
  • Location: Stanley Coulter Hall 231
  • Required: 
    • Form 231, filled out and signed by your advisor
    • Valid Purdue ID (PUID Card)
    • Second form of identification with Photo ID (such as current passport or Driver's License)
    • If you do not have a valid PUID card please provide Purdue documentation of your name with your Purdue ID number

Italian Placement Testing
  • A scheduled session for the Italian Placement Test takes place during Fall Orientation; students can come at their own convenience during the given time block:  Fall 2014 Thursday, August 21 9-11am, Room:  TBA in Stanley Coulter (SC)
  • If students wish to take the the placement test during the course of the semester, they should contact Annalisa Mosca, Coordinator of Italian 101-205 via email at mosca@purdue.edu in order to schedule an individual appointment. Students who have taken Italian in high school, at another institution or through other means must take the placement test and identify themselves as soon as possible to the Coordinator of Italian. Please note that the test is for placement purposes only. Students who desire to receive credits must then complete the course in which they were placed. Students may not therefore test out of Italian.

 Summer STAR Testing
    • Languages Tested: French, German, Japanese, Latin, Russian, Spanish, and Spanish for Heritage Speakers
    • Dates: 2015:  June 15 - July 10 (weekdays only and closed on July 4)
    • Time: 10am-3pm (No Japanese or Russian tests may be started after 2pm; No tests may be started after 2:30pm; we close promptly at 3pm) 
    • Location: Stanley Coulter Hall 231
    • Required:
      • Valid & current Photo ID (PUID Card, Valid Driver's License or state ID, or Passport)
      • Verification of your PUID number and/or a filled out Form 231:  This will most likely be found in the documents or materials received from Purdue.  The Form 231 can be obtained from your academic advisor.  If you have not yet seen your academic advisor at the time of the test, please make sure to provide some official Purdue documentation that contains your PUID number
